Calhoun County Road Commission  |  Finance

The Calhoun County Road Commission (CCRC) receives funding from the Michigan Transportation Fund (MTF) through Public Act 51 of 1951.  Our funding has not increased since 1997, as the State’s gas tax has remained at 19¢ per gallon.  No matter what the price is for a gallon of gas, only 19¢ goes to the State gas tax – this is not a sales tax.  Funding has been decreasing at a rate of approximately 3-4% each year.

The MTF is distributed between State highways, county road systems, cities and villages, public transit, economic development, and local bridges, railroad crossings, etc.  Approximately $300 million is split between 83 counties in Michigan.

This appropriation is divided into three areas:  Engineering, the Primary Road System, and the Local Road System.  Act 51 of the Public Acts of 1951 designates the percentage of funding that can be used on primary road maintenance, local road improvements, winter maintenance, etc.

More information on the breakdown of Michigan’s 19¢ gasoline tax can be found HERE.
