COMMUNICATIONS

  • Letters regarding Duck Lake Sewage Treatment Facility.

NEW BUSINESS

Moved by Commissioner Travis and supported by Commissioner Bobrofsky to amend Calhoun County Board of Public Works Rules and Project Service Costs, as presented. Mr. Randolph stated that these rules had been approved in 1983, but there was an error in the fee table that he corrected. Voice vote: Motion carried.

OTHER BUSINESS

Bill Taylor, Clarence Township resident, stated his reasons and objections for the Duck Lake water treatment plant current plan for expansion. He put forth some alternatives that he would like to have considered. Commissioner Veramay said he would like to clarify the suggestion. He asked if Mr. Taylor was proposing to discharge back into Duck Lake, after treatment. Mr. Taylor said that is one alternative, not the one he would prefer. He would prefer to discharge into Rice Creek. Commissioner Veramay stated that had been proposed 12 years ago and has been disapproved by the MDNR/MDEQ. They will not allow you to take water from one watershed and put it into another watershed. Commissioner Veramay said that if the Board received the written questions; they would forward them on to MDEQ in a formal request.

Mr. Furman, Mr. Gay and Mr. Kirchmeier, Jr. stated their experiences and information that they received from the people they contacted during their research of the issue.

Linda Clement, Emmett Township resident, complained about the lack of cleaning catch basins on her road during rain events. She stated that she calls in every time it rains, but someone does not come out every time to clean it for her. Mr. Randolph had pictures of the catch basin in front of her house taken after the most recent call and rain event. They were clear.

Chairperson Veramay announced that the next regular meeting of the Board of Public Works is scheduled for Wednesday, July 21, 2004 immediately following the Road Commission Meeting at 9:00 a.m. There being no additional business before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:40 a.m.
