
Meeting Minutes
May 5, 2004
The regular meeting of the Board of Park Trustees of the County of Calhoun was held Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in their office located at 13300 Fifteen Mile Road, Marshall, Michigan.
Present: Commissioner Chester E. Travis, Vice-Chairperson
Commissioner David D. Veramay, Member
Carole S. Tabiadon, Deputy Managing Director – Clerk
Joanna I. Johnson, Assistant Managing Director
Angela Kline, Assistant County Highway Engineer
Pixie Coats, Human Resources Director
Also Present: Tom Frank, Albion Township Supervisor
Eugene Hamaker, Marshall Township Supervisor
Larry Holcomb, Convis Township Resident
Clarence Millard, Newton Township Resident
Annette Chapman, Calhoun County Parks & Recreation Director
Vice-Chairperson Travis called the meeting to order at 9:55 a.m. Commissioner Travis announced that Chairperson Bobrofsky was in the hospital. There being no additions or corrections to the regular meeting minutes of May 5, 2004 they stand approved as printed and distributed.
OTHER BUSINESS
Mrs. Annette Chapman, Parks and Recreation Director, stated:
- She has an agreement with the Battle Creek Community Foundation to set up two funds. She explained the difference between the short-term and long-term funds.
- We had some vandalism at the Historic Bridge Park; stolen signs which will be replaced.
- June 26 th is the Annual Living History Demonstration at the Historic Bridge Park from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. There will be a bridge building contest with prize money this year.
- There is a County Linear Trailway meeting tomorrow to establish future trails.
- Yesterday was the 55 th Annual PGA-VA Golf Tournament at Custer Greens Golf Course. There were 40 professional players this year. It was a beautiful day and the course looked great.
- The Mountain Bike Patrol have purchased all of their equipment and should be starting next week. They will be patrolling all Emmett Township County Parks and nearby neighborhoods.
- The Wattles Road Bike Lane is a little behind schedule; but she will be scheduling the G.I. with MDOT soon.
Commissioner Veramay inquired of Larry Holcomb, Convis Township resident, what the Parks Trustees could do to make the situation better for him regarding the property sale and future park site.
Mr. Holcomb said that he understood the position of the Road Commission regarding selling the property; he just did not want to see a public park within that site. He was very concerned about the type of persons that it would draw and the actual use of the property.
Tom Frank, Albion Township Supervisor, said that he thought Annette Chapman was doing a super job.
Eugene Hamaker, Marshall Township Supervisor, said that we all want more parks; but then someone has to maintain them.
Vice-Chairperson Travis announced that the next regular meeting of the Board of Park Trustees is scheduled for Wednesday, July 7, 2004 immediately following the 9:00 a.m. Calhoun County Board of Road Commission meeting. There being no additional business before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:15 a.m.
