OTHER BUSINESS
Mrs. Annette Chapman, Parks and Recreation Director, stated:
- She has sent a letter to the Michigan Attorney General regarding the millage question.
- She has applied for a Challenge Grant through Solid Waste Fund for trash recycling containers at the County Parks.
- She has a meeting with the Battle Creek Foundation to establish the endowment fund for the parks.
- The golf course looks great, but business is down. However, league play is up and there are several new ones this year.
- A county resident donated a plaque from the original County Park Bridge to us and we will have that put up at the Historic Bridge Park in the near future.
- Leila Arboretum volunteers will be working at the Historic Bridge Park doing some landscaping for us.
- She has a meeting in Lansing, with legislators, regarding the trailways.
Mr. Randolph stated that the Annual Bridge Park Day will be June 26 th and we have a new bridge on display this year.
Commissioner Veramay stated that he is very disappointed that the County Board of Commissioners would not put that small Parks millage (1/2 mill) on the ballot; to give the electorate a choice in the matter.
He said that Annette Chapman, Parks and Recreation Director, writes a lot of grants, but most of them require match funds of 25% - 50%, which we do not even have. Mr. Randolph stated that Mrs. Chapman has received over one million dollars in grant funds.
Joseph Bramble, Convis Township resident, said that he agreed with Commissioner Veramay; it should have been put on the ballot. That small amount should be given that choice.
Commissioner Bobrofsky stated that to not even give the people the choice is not right.
Clarence Millard, Newton Township resident, said that it was pretty poor that the County Board of Commissioners would not consider putting this millage on the ballot.
Chairperson Bobrofsky announced that the next regular meeting of the Board of Park Trustees is scheduled for Wednesday, June 2, 2004 immediately following the 9:00 a.m. Calhoun County Board of Road Commission meeting. There being no additional business before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 8:09 p.m.
